Don’t Turn Your Back on Love

By Amos Love

Some people believe children should be seen and not heard but I know that a lot goes on in a child’s mind. I remember as a four year old the struggles I faced.

I was raised in a Christian home with loving parents who prayed for me and took me to church every Sunday. Mrs. Sandra my piano teacher shared the good news of salvation with me. I remember praying the sinners prayer and how happy I was. Now I believed that I would be a better person, but it wasn’t long before I got in trouble again. Now doubt filled my mind and the assurance and peace that I felt was gone.

I remember that every sermon I heard brought doubt. Even my mothers nightly prayers that used to bring me comfort only brought more doubt!

I tried reciting the sinners prayer on different occasions but nothing changed.

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him:

One night when Mom came into the bedroom to say prayers with me and my sister, I began to cry and asked her what else I needed to do. I wasn’t sure I was going to Heaven! She explained about God’s love and told me that He wanted to be a part of my life. That we have to trust God, and that He loves us because He says so in the Bible. Being saved does not mean you’re perfect, just forgiven.

I eagerly, and tearfully prayed that night in faith, and told God I wanted Him to have my life. As a child I simply received the love of God. I was saved.

Mathew 18:3

Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Every day I thank a loving God for delivering me at such an early age. Not only did He save my soul, He saved my life. He fills me with joy and I have learned to trust Him more every day.

Now, over 25 years later, God continues to reveal Himself and draws me closer to Him.  One of the clearest life lessons that God has ever taught me was the most simple of all.

The day my daughter was born, my heart was flooded with love. I never felt love for anyone quite like I did for my little girl. She didn’t have to earn my love or approval but there I was, loving her more than I thought was possible. What a blessing from God. My little girl! She’s the apple of my eye!

I began to realize God’s love was greater than I could ever imagine!

Now, consider this. As much as I love my Daughter,  what if there came a day when she would turn her back on me, and say she did not need my love, and didn’t want me involved in her life. That she was not interested in ever being around me, and that she would contact me if she needed something, but that for the most part she wanted me to stay out of her life.

It breaks my heart to even imagine that this could ever happen. But in reality, this happens with God all the time! There are people everywhere who have turned their back on God. They know that God loves them but they only call on Him in their time of need.

Now that I have my own child, I can’t imagine the sorrow God feels when we live our lives not interested in anything that He has for us, and only pray when things are going wrong.

I challenge you to search your life and consider. What have you done with God’s love? As a matter of fact, God loves you more than you can imagine.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Have you found yourself with your back turned to God? Will you turn around and see God for who He is and give your life to Him?

Pray this prayer with me. "Dear Heavenly Father, I don’t want to turn my back on you. I know in my heart that Jesus died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. Please forgive me and come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Thank you for saving my soul. In Jesus’ name, amen."

If you prayed this prayer, write it down so you’ll always remember when your new life, with peace and joy in Christ, began. It’s important to read your Bible every day, find a Bible-believing church and Christian friends, and always share your story about how you simply received the Love of God. God Bless You.
